2/n … so it bears repeating that it takes quite a bit of #Physics and #Engineering to get to that place where laypeople might understand the difficulty in duplicating technology that is not a few generations from where we are now but hundreds or thousands. It’s also the case that most of the best talent in the world in #Physics and #Engineering do not reside in classified military / contractor settings where they are silo’d and not even allowed to talk to each other. We could have a hardware/ materials collection stretching from here to there and still be clueless. We have to make progress on some fundamental open problems in #Physics and #Engineering just to get to the starting line.

4/n…enough in the next decade to make headway on new propulsion systems. Invariably on the path to that stuff blows up. It might have been an accident…but if it’s a brand new way of blowing stuff up we will weaponize it.That tendency became incommensurate with long term survival on the planet nearly half a century ago.
