Interest on the $38.8 trillion national debt has tripled since 2020, and it already costs taxpayers more than defense and Medicaid - Lemmy.World

Does the United States have a spending problem? Obviously, but I really wanted to talk about how the cost of living crisis is presenting itself in your community. That relates to this article because you can’t squeeze blood from a stone. If all of you have no disposable income, no savings, and a job market that can’t support your current cost of living… What happens if you lose your job? Do you default on loan obligations along with America because we are stretched to the edge. Should we vote in members of congress to pass more tax breaks for private jets? Are mods whack? Let me know in the comments.

Mods don’t want us discussing what our back up plans are for job loss. But if you lost your job today, what job would you apply to on indeed, and would there be enough money from that job to pay your current bills? Do you think there is security in your job market if you lose your job?
Mods also don’t want us talking about assassinating the entire Trump administration
Lmao is that what got removed from my last post? Im trying to gauge sentiment here and this is a reading.
I don’t know about your post history. But the mods on .world are very pro-government.
I mean im pro government too. Order is one of the bonuses of living in a society.
So, which government do you like?
I sure do enjoy a democracy even if I have to vote with glass lickers.
So do you like the genocide party of the genocide+ party?
I voted for killer Kamala but she was not blood thirsty enough 😩
I was a fan of Biden actually, I know that’s a controversial take on here. I thought he was a good US president. A lot of people don’t think he was a good president because they don’t understand that a president doesn’t make laws.
But a president can bypass laws to ship arms to a country committing genocide!

No… congress made the laws to ship the bombs. They created the money to facilitate the transfer.

Remember when all us kind people wanted to send F-16s to Ukraine and it never happened. Your congressman loves sending guns to Israel. I bet you won’t vote them out this year. I bet you’re too dumb.

False.

Going around Congress, the Biden administration said Saturday it has approved the emergency sale to Israel of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition worth more than $106 million as Israel intensifies its military operations in the southern Gaza Strip.

For the second time this month the Biden administration is bypassing Congress to approve an emergency weapons sale to Israel as Israel continues to prosecute its war against Hamas in Gaza under increasing international criticism.

The State Department bypasses Congress to OK the sale of tank ammunition to Israel

Going around Congress, the Biden administration says it's approved the emergency sale to Israel of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition worth more than $106 million as Israel intensifies its military operations in the southern Gaza Strip. The State Department said in a statement Saturday that it notified Congress of the sale late Friday, after Secretary of State Antony Blinken determined “an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale” of the munitions in the U.S. national security interest. That means the purchase will bypass the congressional review requirement for foreign military sales. Such determinations are rare, but not unprecedented, when administrations see an urgent need for weapons to be delivered without waiting for lawmakers’ approval.

AP News
I stand corrected! Now remind me; was Hamas holding a bunch of American hostages when that was written?

Irrelevant goal post moving.

The reason stated by the Biden administration was “The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to ensure Israel is able to defend itself against the threats it faces” it was to protect Israel, nothing to do with American hostages.

Some Democratic lawmakers have spoken of making the proposed $14.3 billion in American assistance to its Mideast ally contingent on concrete steps by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza during the war with Hamas.

Congress was going to ask Israel to maybe do a little bit less genocide. Biden said fuck that and went around them to do as he pleases.

Biden was a genocide enabling president and that makes Biden a bad president.

Goal post moving? I said you were correct and I asked a follow up question. Glad it got a rise out of you tho: did you just experience nuance for a second?
My child I’ve been watching isreal stealing land a killing Palestinians for the last 40 years, maybe its not Bidens fault?
I really hope you have yourself a local candidate who supports your ideals to send to congress! I’d love to see you exercise your political power and make a better world!
He was OK, as far as administrations go, but his last year of insistance on running, dipping out kinda late, and then pardoning his son (and others) really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Here’s my only thought on him “dipping out kinda late” He was forced out when the democrats adopted the republican slander that he was senile or had dementia. Personally I would have taken Joe Biden with Dementia over trump with dementia. Outside of that yes, the question of his age and competency should have been forced 2 years before the election so proper primaries could happen. The DNC loves subverting democracy when ever they can…Hillary Clinton.

The pardons all left a bad taste in my mouth too, for like 3 weeks. Then the trump admin Rolled out a weaponized DOJ and started attacking political opponents and it made sense. What didn’t make sense and my biggest criticism is if you are scared enough to pardon everyone you know, he pretty much threw us to the wolves and saved his pack. after the DNC had just thrown him to the wolves I really don’t hold it against him. Kash Patel got appointed head of the FBI so those pardons seem really well thought out now.

Biggest criticism I have of Biden was he was too amicable when it came to prosecuting trump. He failed to protect the American legacy. He was probably the last decent US president.

So do you want to answer the question or just avoid it? Specifically, which government do you simp for…. Like the mods…
I simp for a government who is able to take on problems I cannot solve as an individual!

So, to be clear…… which government do you simp for? Like, what country?

Because simping for the theory of a perfect society is fine, but that’s not what I’m talking about.

Well I sure do like it here in the USA. I feel like our government could be better at wealth distribution, education, regulations, and democracy. but the people don’t want that. I see nothing wrong with our system, but unfortunately we have about 200 million people that vote but lack civic education. I felt very comfortable traveling through Japan. You could feel the order and safety in the country, like everywhere. I feel like irelands government did pretty well for its people. I don’t feel comfortable simping for someone else’s government because I can only experience mind as a citizen ya know? I enjoy living in my little US democracy even if it’s broken. I just keep encouraging people to fix it.
Well, you are very out of touch with reality. I’m guessing you voted for Trump at least once right?
No vote 2016. Big Biden in 2020 and Kamala 2024. Obama 08 no vote 2012
Out of touch with reality? I’m punched air and watching the world burn, just like you.
If you’re talking about your “Vote like you will be competing against me for $16 an hour jobs.” post getting removed, it’s because this community only allows links to articles. It’s the first rule listed. If you want to self-post try something like [email protected] instead. fair enough. I’d argue that news articles really fail to capture some of the real politics and worthwhile discussions. There’s a reason why the rightwing media bought up all the local news agencies.
