Most air purifiers double as white noise machines. Helps cut down on outside noise a hell of a lot.
There are also free phone apps that generate lots of different ambient sounds. Finding those let me ditch fans for good, and I have my sweet, soothing sleep sounds anywhere I go.

My neighbors dog hears a leaf fall in my yard in the middle of the night semi-frequently and just barks. For hours. They do nothing about it, they just let the dog sit outside and bark.

I had never considered shooting a dog before that happened 7 or 8 times, going to be honest.

Edit: to be clear, I would never actually harm my neighbors dog — when you’re up til 5 in the morning because your neighbors won’t control their animal… You won’t be emotionally or mentally stable.

throw that dog some chocolate, it will calm down
You’re listening to Woof NPR. Today we’re talking about who is a good boy, and is he you? A fifteen hour segment.
I always wear earplugs to bed, no matter what. I cut a bit less than half of the ends off at an angle so I can sleep with them in my ear comfortably. Cutting them at an angle creates a sort of handle so they don’t get stuck in your ear.
My dog is old and deaf now so it’s less of a problem anymore, but she used to occasionally go outside and bark at opossums on the back fence in the middle of the night. I was always mortified that she might wake up the neighbors and we’d try to get her back inside as fast as possible, which let me tell you is a struggle when there is an opossum, mom, no I don’t want to come in, I want that thing to come down so I can sniff the shit out of it.
I don’t understand people that let their dog bark uncontrolled. My dog wants to bark at cats, the one neighbor he doesn’t like and at ambulances and churchbells. We would never let him out after 10 pm or before 7 am for that reason alone and during the day we try to silence him (he knows the silence command, and when he ignores it he loses his outdoor privilege for the hour). We have a dog down the road that is chained up in the yard all day and night and barks at passersby all the time. This week the house nextdoor was sold and I feel so bad for the new homeowners.
