Looks more like artillery or mining. Airplane bombs weren’t that big yet until the very end of the war, the biggest being 1000kg, which COULD have made a crater that size under ideal situations but unlikely, also those were dropped by zeppelin, not airplane.
I believe heavy bombers were dropping 800 kg+ by the end of the war.
Still, the depth of the crater suggests mining. I’m not saying it COULDN’T be an airplane, just that it is less likely. Also it could’ve hit an already existing crater.
I mean, I’m just going off the captions I found it with.
That’s fair. Cool photo, either way. I assume someone (or many) died from it, seeing as it looks like they’re honoring someone.
