I suppose March is a good time to have your stove condemned #BoatLife #Boatstodon #liveaboard #CanalLife
@bee Oh, that doesn't sound good! Did it fail the boat safety inspection thingy or something?
@fudge_the_sphinx It failed the ‘engineer can poke a hole in it with their finger’ test. A couple of years of neglect and condensation….
@bee Yikes!
@fudge_the_sphinx Yikes indeed. Yikes on bikes.

@bee

Oh dear. Any chance of patching/plating it?

@ratcatcher It doesn’t look like it! Basically the bit the flue sits in as it joins the body of the stove now has a 2in gap halfway around it and there’s not much to weld anything to. Water ingress from a bodged roof collar led to pooling in the debris above the ash plate and created near perfect conditions for eating a stove.

@bee

Ah, shite. I suppose a chicken wire and fire cement bodge is out of the question?

@ratcatcher I mean I _could_ but I don’t see that passing its BSS checks down the line 😜 I think its time has come! It’s not entirely unsurprising, boat had 3 winters empty before I came along and there had been some big ol bodges before.

@bee

Will you have to replace the entire stove or can it be dismantled to replace parts?

@ratcatcher Finding out in the morning! It’s ancient (40+ years) so there was going to be some part machining just to refurb the bits I knew were broken. (Not by me I add. I prefer to leave most metalwork tasks to someone considerably more butch.)
