Today I received *two* seemingly independent offers to start a "web3" funding initiative for #curl.

That feels like two too many. No thanks. Take your scam offers to someone else.

according to claims, the "npm founder" has one of those web3 scampaigns here: https://bags.fm/J948jWGHJsf13FWuZxWdajRuBXxPpgLy1hMCzisvBAGS

I can't even tell if its real or not.

@bagder

Kelsey Hightower got an email from "them" and called out a scam too : https://bsky.app/profile/kelseyhightower.com/post/3mcrvema3722t

I did not create this memecoin nor do I endorse any memecoins. This technology is being used to automate pump and dump schemes. The "community" is recruiting "investors" and co-conspirators with upfront payments and the promise of future gains by collectively exploiting each other. Someone has launched a shitcoin using my employer's name and my name, these people should be arrested.

It seems the proposed setup is similar to what is being described here: https://www.seangoedecke.com/gas-and-ralph/

A scam, as I presumed.

@bagder the number of emails I get in a week offering to 'invest in' or to 'buy' my small business is equally stupid/scammy

Every email also comes from a .shop domain

Like, they could at least try to make it not look like a scam

@bagder So what was the pitch? "You download the files over internet. Like you used to, bro. But get this, and this is the really clever part dude, we could use blockchain. This is going to change the game bro."
@bagder The only web 3 funding initiative I will accept of is someone crowdfunding for the semantic web, and I will give Internet cookie points to anyone who will even recognise that term.
@bagder Wait! Web3 is still a thing? I thought it collapsed with NFTs.
Huh. I thought we left "web3" in 2024.
