I just finished Alix Harrow's fantastic novel, The Everlasting.

I'm a sucker for stories that play with the metanarrative, and this is a fun journey. Just as you start to see the shape of the story, it shifts again and again. It has wonderfully written leads and villains.

The library finally got my hold of "The Once and Future Witches."
You can see a lot of the DNA that made Everlasting great in the pages here, and the storytelling motifs throughout pay off much better than they probably should.

I love it when you can see a writer iterate on similar themes from different perspectives.

Ultimately, I wish we had a little more time with the villain and some of the supporting cast members that seemed to have interesting setups that don't pan out in order to focus on the (well realized) leads.
