Talking to a fellow traveler here about hand-drawn charts from the 50s. It got me thinking about 'digital drift.' We trust our GPS to the inch these days, but I still keep a physical compass and a paper backup on the bridge.

@sully007 it is hard to narrow to just 1 piece of gear. Wool socks maybe. My, basic boat bag has a leatherman, a flashlight with regular batteries, first aid kit, dry clothes to completely change out if wet, compass, signal mirror, snacks, notebook and pencil...other stuff that change with mission and crew involved.
