“To all influencers and other tax exiles in Dubai, the tax authorities wish you a safe return to France”

P.S. yes, this is most likely AI generated satirical image

@kravietz Stop posting AI slop. Thank you!

@benknispel

So what? It’s funny and I don’t think anyone expects it to be 100% verifiable evidence of anything.

@kravietz @benknispel yes, funny. But adding that it is not real really helps. Its a curtesy for those (like me) who really try to understand for a minute if it could be real.

@kravietz Whether making fun of people (no matter who) stuck somewhere because of war is OK or not is everyone's private decision. I did not mention this.

Posting fake AI generated “photos” almost indistinguishable from real photos without any mention of them being fake is another matter. I do not like it for various reasons and it would be helpful if people did not do this at all. This is why I brought this up.

@benknispel

Okay I take the criticism and will apply AI markings in future.

What if this was a real photo of fiscal officers holding a banner, but the text on the banner was replaced with different one using digital photo editing software? Done well enough, it would be indistinguishable from real photo — photomanipulation existed for decades and somehow people just learned to ignore photos that seem dubious to them, unless it's presented to them as serious evidence of something.
Or laugh at it if it seems funny — or not laugh and think that the one who made it has poor taste if they consider it not a laughing matter.
@m0xEE The “someone just put new text on the banner” was my first reaction. Wouldn't have made that much of a difference to me, except that this would've required some expertise. @kravietz
@[email protected]
It would require expertise if this was presented as proof of something — even in this case, I'd probably reply something like: "OMG, is this real?!" and expect the one who posted it to respond with a link to the source of the image or say this was taken by them personally. In case of former, I'd see if I trust the source, and only in case of latter I would've taken a closer look. And if I still had doubts, dismiss it and respond with "looks shopped".

But here… It wasn't accompanied with something in the vein of "Breaking: customs officers are making fun of repatriated people!!!" — to me it does seem like humour. You might think that this humour is in poor taste, but I just don't see how "AI" changes the game here. BTW, I'm still unsure if @[email protected] used such tools and could be certain about it, and not just found this image elsewhere on the Internet and reposted on Fedi.
@m0xEE

Of course I found it elsewhere (Twitter), I would never go as low as spending several kWh of electricity to generate stupid yet funny image 😁 The reason why it was not originally marked as AI is that I found it so obviously satirical that it doesn’t matter whether it’s generated by AI or Photoshop or hand-drawn.
@[email protected]
As much as I hate these tools and you don't seem to like them either, I don't get the reactions at all. It should've been something like:
— This image looks "AI"-generated
— My bad, indeed it might be — found it elsewhere. Sign's still funny though…
— No, it's not funny, it makes fun of people fleeing the war
— It's doesn't make fun of people fleeing the war, only those who earlier fled EU taxation to the UAE because "they are now on their own", but ironically now they don't want to be on their own

Not "OMG, it's AI, you are now BLOCKED!!!" Jesus, people get triggered by all sorts of things these days!
@kravietz @benknispel as a French guy I would not discard it is real. We had comedians in the past acting as Swiss citizens (with Swiss flags and make up) and cheering for French tennis men during international competition. They did so cause all French tennis men had their main residence in Switzerland to evade French taxation.
@FrancoisPrague Real French officers would not have name tags with garbled letters and another tag labelled “DOUAKE” on their clothes. @kravietz
@benknispel @kravietz ok sherlock of AI. But that was not remotely the point I was making.
