One conclusion from the by-election seems to be that the @thegreenparty is likely to benefit from #FPTP in the near future because their opposition is split between Reform and Labour.

So it will be a real test of their commitment to democracy for them to continue emphasis on #PR as a policy.

Will @ZackPolanski say: We don't *want* 100% of the power on 40% of the vote. We want government to reflect the political diversity of the country.

Graciousness in victory

(I say this as a GP member)

@tomstoneham @ZackPolanski

I admire your confidence. This strikes me as unreasonably premature. Even as a Green, I'd want to see some post-by-election polls before suggesting Greens are going to sweep to power.

After over a quarter of a century as a member of GPEW and, mostly, SGP, I can't believe I am even writing such a sentence.

@iaruffell @ZackPolanski
Hah! I wasn't predicting - but after the G&D success, teh commentariat will be busy speculating on various things and I'm sure this will be one of them. It is an opportunity to be clear that #PR is about genuine democracy and not 'rewarding losers' (as Conservative Home once put it).

If you believe in #PR, you believe even those who really really disagree with should have power proportional to their support. Say it now, while riding the wave of success under #FPTP.
