In This Month in 1980 Composition of Sound was formed by Vince Clarke, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher. In April 1980 Dave Gahan joined the band after Vince Clarke heard him sing David Bowie's 'Heroes' while being a 'sound engineer' for another band called French Look. The rest is history.
