@mojo You can trace the whole thing back to Keatings media laws to appease Murdoch and try to get more favourable coverage during the election cycle in the early 90s. Spoiler Murdoch ran a smear campaign against Keating and we got Howard.
Unfortunately, this train started with labour.

@Gh0stlyM0use Yeah, the '87 rules helped Murdoch build his empire & he rewarded Keating short-term. But the personal character assassination playbook against every Labor leader since? That's pure Murdoch, ongoing & intensifying — Albo's just the latest target. Rudd saw it coming.

@mojo dont know now, but early 00's there was a major push in schools to improve students' critical thinking in media.... it didnt really stick for some, but it definantly helps navigate the noise.
