A lot of people are discovering the problem of the middle east (Dubai, et al) being a choke-point for air-travel.

I've been telling Aussies for years that it's not any longer to Europe via South Korea or Japan. The world is a globe, y'all.

I flew to Europe via Seoul a few years ago.
After boarding the plane we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours, then were escorted by two fighter jets to a small town in southern Germany, where they set up camp beds for us all...
50-odd hours after boarding that plane in Korea I arrived at my destination.
So I'm a little ambivalent when it comes to flying via Korea.
Tokyo would be an option. I have family there.

@PetraPanda Oh wow... that sounds like an unwanted adventure. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I haven't flown to Europe, but I have flown to the US (specifically New York) via Seoul. Apart from a small issue in Sydney, it all went very smoothly.

Oh I'm not concerned. It was just a very rare and unusual circumstance. Funny in a way in hindsight. The gmfughtervjet pilots were ready to shoot us down had the pilot of the 747-400 not responded in kind to visual stimuli (all voice and data comms had broken down entirely).
So I have a yarn to tell around the camp fire.
