I want to start an online anarchist research university. Fuck signalling and degrees and publication count, I want to host a place where people come to collaborate on building knowledge and to learn and teach things. Not so you can "improve your resume" or "get a job" or create connections to help get you hired or any capitalist bullshit. Just specifically because you either want to know something, or you do know something and want to share it with others.

And I want to build it starting now.

I hear you, and it reminds me of what some young people in Germany have dome - started their own University.
They are going the opposite route, making physical space and meeting in person to get to embodied forms of education. You can find some details here, but have to follow them across social media (or simply ask) to get more information.

Thats awesome, my German is super limited, but I'll take a look at their site tomorrow!

in person is great but so many people are spread out or isolated from physical contact with others who might collaborate.

One thought I have though is to maybe create cross collaborations between the anarchist version and the centralized existing universities. i mean, there are plenty of people who need anything from undergrad thesis projects to PhD projects... why not collaborate with others?

@dlakelan
AFAIK the page is also available in English, but yes, some of the videos are not.
The in-person might be misleading, these are quite remote places, unlike university cities. People can come there to educate themselves together, just as they would move to a university. This of course implies logistics of food, energy, housing etc. and it won't work for everyone.
@dlakelan
While I'm thinking of this, there's another instance of decentralized on- and offline learning: The Chaos Computer Club @CCC
While not centered around an education degree, they are using and creating very advances technology, and have always fanned out into politics, philosophy, arts of other humanities.
There might be something to be learned from their local meetups and gatherings, while opening up all learning resources. Cf. @c3voc for published talks.

If you are interested in the formation of this, there's a documentary called "Everything is one - except the zero" - originally in German, but English subtitles can be found. It doesn't say too much about the current state, but very much about how to get from literally nothing to a large-scale decentralized organisation with more non-members than members (because they oppose structures 😅)
