20-Feb: Your favorite guilty watching pleasure?

"Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" always cheers me up.

@whoosh even Partner, who is not a fan of romance, got a massive kick out of this one. It was great fun.
@commonst @whoosh Ok, on my watch list, now for real! 💪

This is one of those that mix romance, silly slapstick, & crime. Be forewarned that there is a lot of horrible crime in it - but IMO, it's absolutely necessary for the theme (many disagree with me though).

@whoosh @commonst Oh, ok! Thanks, did not look that way by looking at the description

Yeah, for me, the crime, as well as the trans-bashing and "funny" domestic violence that happens in the show, outweighed my other positive feelings. The leads and their relationship were quite delightful.
@EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @commonst Oj, ok, that list sound like my usual red flags, but I'll give it a try, also knowing it is a bit older by now
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @commonst for me the psychopath subplot was the reason I kept watching it at the beginning. I don't recall any domestic violence, just chaebol family psychological violence. Am I wrong? It's been a while since I watched it.
The romance is really well done!

The wife was constantly smacking the husband around. And I don't find serial kidnapper-rapists to be very entertaining for some reason.
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @s1m0n4 @whoosh @commonst After all, this drama is stretching it like a rubber band. Innocent cute funny lead on one side. Hardcore violence at the other . All against an average, normal daily background. More dramas like that in recent years." Atypical Family ", "Family Matters" come first in mind. For me , the effect of that is wearing off after seeing more of it. Korean film has so many very good acting people who can build up the vibe in the mind. Enough for me.

I think my former posts on Do Bong Soon show up under the hashtag.

The romance is one of the most amazing in kDrama. But the reason I like the actual story is that every storyline is about unequal power & how helpless people are in the face of abusive power.

Great societal commentary, even if the abuse is shown through disturbing things like the crime. For as ground-breaking as it was on women's empowerment, and the abuse of power, it did miss the mark with some inappropriate humor, although pretty common at the time.

@whoosh @hanktank61 @EllenInEdmonton @s1m0n4 @commonst I am almost halfway #strongwomandobongsoon Indeed weird how innocent the romance is in combination with the violence. I FF a lot. I don't think the mobsters are funny. I like it more than I should, ha bc it is indeed about power. Since ep 1 I have a feeling that the plot is the same as a well known '90 US film that had me running for my blankies like no other. If so, I understand the trans-bashing comment. And the mother is awful. #kdrama
