After 4 months in Chile and Argentina, here is a short recap concerning the use of #whatsapp (WA).
To be clear: I wholly support the #diday initiative and suggest using #signal as much as I can. But here is what we are up against.
* Accomodation via booking.com?
Get your access to the house by WA. No WA? No access.
* AirBnB dito - you must have WA to get access. Or speak fluent spanish.
* Flight booking, online check-in? Use WA.
* State of major roads? Check WA.

* Ask your hotel concierge a question? Use WA.
* Get loyalty points from a supermarket and receive special offers? Use WA.
* State of public transport? Check their WA channel.
* Keep in touch with an acquaintance you met while traveling? Exchange WA contact.
* Get the latest and best information on camping, road conditions and workshops for #overlander 's. Check one of many WA groups.
The use of #whatsapp is so prevalent in south america, that it is hard to image how it could be replaced.
