I disagree. I think Martin Freeman was a mediocre choice. He’s a great actor but he doesn’t have the warmth that Ian Holm had in the original trilogy. Freeman is too sarcastic.

Bilbo doesn’t have that warmth in The Hobbit book. That’s something he acquired with age.
