Our "paying for media" system is broken because it doesn't account for what is recommended to us via social media.

You can pay a lot of money for lots of services and still not be able to check out the cool new thing all your friends are suddenly talking about. Or still have to sit through ads when you'd rather just pay them directly (but not stack that on top of paying for other stuff you now won't get to this month)

Fans and indie artists get screwed while executives cash in.

#PublicPatron

this problem leads to the public wanting one company to host everything, so you can pay once and be assured of always having access and never seeing an ad etc. see #Spotify and #Substack.

but obviously that's horrendous. that kind of corporate monopoly will fuck everybody economically in pursuit of their shareholder value. it will have the power to decide what culturally important work gets seen, and usually made.

we have to find another way.
