Just noting that this is EXACTLY how Labour lost Scotland in the 90s and 00s. Ignored what the voters wanted (public services and socialism), ignored their ideological opponents (the Tories), and attacked the SNP (a centre-left party who were delivering on public services and socialism).

This went down like a lead balloon …

@cstross And may be reflected in elections in May. Labour did well in UK elections last time as people hoped for change, but since things have not changed for the better there is likely to be a move back to SNP and to Scottish Greens.

@nusher @cstross a resurgent Greens would be grand here. The SNP remains an uncomfortable coalition (we all want Indy, but not everyone is a social democrat), and without the balancing weight of the Scottish Greens they’ve been lurching right.

On the upside, as a recent Scottish transplant from Australia (who also have preferential voting) I’m at least relieved I can vote for Greens MSPs without having to worry about the strategic voting bullshit required for FPTP UK elections.
