So... My New York trip was to get a schengen visa from Hungary consulate because there isn't one in Boston...

In fact I shouldn't have applied with them at all because I miscalculated the days I'll be in Germany vs Hungary 🙄 the last two days of the river cruise from Budapest to Munich (or somewhere near Munich) are both already in Germany - I only counted 1. Per rules of Schengen visa, you need to:

- apply with the country you stay the most days in
- if there're more than one country where you stay equal days, apply with the country of the first entry

I thought I would stay the same number of days in Hungary and Germany. It turns out, I will stay one more day in Germany!

So the Hungary consulate in New York outright didn't accept my application. I went to New York for nothing but experiencing the blizzard!!!

Good thing is that Germany consulate uses an outsourcing company to take applications and it has an office in Boston... And it has plenty of availability...

#SchengenVisa

@corgidad you need to apply for a visa ahead of time for a cruise? Or are you visiting for more than 90 days?

@motoridersd

Yes! I'm not a US citizen (yet)... Still have passport from China

@corgidad ah!! Ok that makes sense now. I was worried that there had been changes in requirements since *gestures wildly*
@motoridersd I think US passport holders just need to fill up something online to visit EU .... But I'm not sure if it has been implemented yet...
@corgidad @motoridersd the EU basically cloned ESTA.
