Another odd trend I'm observing: students don't understand how to work with plain text any longer.

The concept of wrapping text to fit an 80 char terminal gives them trouble. Many resort to random websites where they paste their text into and that will insert line breaks in the middle of the word at exactly 80 chars.

Using a text editor to, uhm, edit text is, at this point, completely foreign to them.

Weird.

@jschauma because they have grown up with text entry in websites and apps, all of them different, many of them deficient in editing features, and most of them taking care of formatting for whatever specific context somewhat automatically?
@uep Yep. Absolutely all text entry appears to happen in a browser and/or be assumed to be rendered in a browser (e.g., markdown).
@jschauma
That sounds like a vscode reference. Wasn't that a web-based tool or am I confusing things?
