My friend just asked if she could come to Kauai to escape any nuclear war and I have bad news for her.

We have an anti-missile missile base on the island (Barking Sands, aka the Pacific Missile Range Facility) so I think we'd be toast pretty early on. Unless the anti-missile missiles actually work...

@brianvastag When I was a wee lad, maybe 9 years old, I thought that I would be safe in St Louis when the bombs began to fall. My father pointed to the airbases, Jefferson Barracks, and Lambert airport, and McDonnell Douglas. I then had to decide where I would hide when the bombs began to fall.
@rjblaskiewicz growing up is hard

@brianvastag I know, right? I decided that a concrete-paved drainage canal that ran under the highway, under about 40 feet of embankment, and which had accessible drains in the walls to climb into, would be as safe as anywhere. I mean, unless it rained.

Yeah I was toast.

@brianvastag Hilo would be a better spot. Farthest city in the state from Pear Harbor, upwind with the trades. An international airport and lots of on-island food sources growing.
