Theorizing time because brain doesn't have enough stimulation and needs to think about stupid things:

Modern computers with sufficient GPU and RAM can run basic GenAI stuff. You have people running LLMs and genAI image generators on their own machines that are starting to look like some of the big name generators.

What if the whole 'buying up all RAM, hard drives, etc' is also partially just to block people from doing that? So then those people who would otherwise use local stuff would resort to the big name GenAI.

But big tech being inherently big and stupid, is just ruining everything else in the process.

It's just a theory. Probably the reality is that GenAI is just absorbing all the tech in the world and needs to be set on fire.

@inkblitz I think there's some truth to the idea that the goal of at least some of the people driving this market is to make it impossible for individuals to own computers more powerful than the bare minimum required to connect to cloud services. I guess there have already been attempts at normalizing that idea, but now they'd have to force everyones' hands.
