bought a 14 TB NAS hard drive for ~400 EUR, i think this is pretty low by these days?
@whitequark I can barely buy a 8 TB drive for that price here in India lol
@whitequark yeesh I knew prices were high but I didn’t know they were that high. This was my most recent HDD purchase from March 2024 - about 275EUR by today’s exchange rate. And that was for 2
@whitequark I can get 12TB exos drives for ~230 EUR rn. But then there are also lunatics selling 8TB NAS drives for 290 EUR. It's so wacky, you need to check like a dozen SKUs to find a reasonable price. But most of them are definitely inflated.
@dimin welp, should've checked more
@whitequark you can re-sell it in a month for profit probably at this rate...
@whitequark O_O sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I bought a 16TB recertified drive in december for ~250 EUR.
@whitequark That seems about the price that I can get around here (France). Though a "shucked" drive from an external HDD of that capacity can go as low as 320€.
@whitequark Probably not too bad *today*. I got a couple DC-class (WD HC590/Seagate Exos) 24T drives for ~500CHF a month ago, but today i see the exact same parts for around 600.
@whitequark It's insane. It's time for the bubble to burst.

@whitequark probably only beatable by amazon refurbs. Which go at around 400 EUR for 20-24TB, ish.

Ofcourse those are refurbs, which come with their own issues. And its amazon .....
