I think of it like how the plural of "rice" is "rice".
I wouldn't give someone a bowl of rice and say "here are some rice".
@marginalia depends if you’re talking about the dats as a whole, or you’re in the data and talking about it there.
Sort of like a folder full of papers:
The folder contains the data, vs
the papers contain the data.
