Not the OP, but it looks like a chaveta to me. Used to cut tobacco leaves.
It's an all-purpose cooking knife.
I stopped using mine when it became clear that it would always come in second-best to a cleaver, a chef's knife, or a santoku, and generally not what you want for fine control -- fruit and vegetable peeling, for example.
But if you need to only have one cooking knife, for whatever reason, it's not a bad choice.
It's an ULU, a knife used by people of the far North
