#askFedi a comrade is asking about security cameras and if there are any that don't give footage to the cops. looking at Ubiquiti, they say the footage is never even stored in their servers so it seems like they wouldn't be able to, but they also do not specify what happens if they get subpoenaed. does anyone have more information about how safe these are? #securityCameras #ubiquiti

@raphaelmorgan Ubiquity is a DIY solution kind of thing.

They make the hardware networking ecosystem, they make the software to actually use and store your footage, but its entirely up to you to store the footage and set up all the parts.

It isn't a drop-in system like Ring or Nest, it's actually configuring firewalls and setting static IPs. It's considerably closer to getting a coaxe camera box like businesses use.

The benefit is that indeed, they are not looking at your cameras. Ubiquity would catch hell from their government and corporate clients if they did. The drawback is that it isn't a simple appliance.
