i hate to say it but there are still a lot of days where even though I don't use AI, it still feels like it drains the passion from my work. It's already worrying enough knowing I apparently need to keep an eye on code coming into drivers I work on to make sure people who I really hoped would know better don't try to submit AI generated code ._..
please stop using these tools. They are not making you more productive.
And yes, you are negatively affecting the people around you by using them. If you just use it for autocomplete, whatever, my metamour does this because of severe issues with her hands and that's fine.
But you are literally draining the life and passion out of the people around you if you are seriously vibe coding. I'm still trying to get over the fact that apparently I'm just never using Fedora silverblue because someone working on it got affected by the AI hype bubble and I now just literally cannot remotely trust it. I'm so worried about if anything else I've used is getting infected by this too.
If you really hate your job so much you'd use this shit please go be a manager or something that doesn't make you touch code. Please don't subject the people around you to this. Please respect those of us who literally worked our whole lives to get into the jobs we're in. Please think of people other then yourself.
Limit this shit to your own personal projects. Do not use this on projects other people work on. I am literally begging y'all, please cut it out with this shit. I'm so fucking tired man.

@Lyude I think you saw, and I just want to emphasize that we really also need comments like that on the discussion.

Though I can also understand that it can be difficult to not come around as abrasive, so in case you want me to proof read stuff or something feel free to ask.

@karolherbst is there an ongoing discussion somewhere? I'm always happy to chime in :)
@Lyude there are so many good reasons to reject genai in general. i feel like there is no ethical way to use any of this, not even local models

i wish all these reasons wouldn't just be shoved under the rug
@lumi Honestly one of the things I'm going to be bringing up in discussions is that the politics of this tooling are inseparable from the policies we make around them, and that we can't keep pushing it out of discussions.
It's downright absurd to say that a tool which CEOs are proudly exclaiming will put every white collar worker out of a job has nothing to do with a discussion on whether the tools should e used or not. It directly affects people's mental health and their ability to work on projects and do good work, and there's very clear signs that it deeply affects the way people vet their own code by burning them out of actually looking at the output of genai.
@Lyude definitely, in addition to the energy use, how it dehumanizes everything and devalues humanity in general, how it is pushed forward by fascists, how it reduces the quality of work, how it increases the burden of reviewing code, how it is used to mass produce propaganda, how it has inherent biases, how it reduces skill development, how it's controlled by tech corporations, how it has privacy issues, ...

the list of problems with the technology is literally endless

it's baffling that anyone who knows about these issues can push for the technology being used
