I am meanwhile getting attacked for this blog post https://jonworth.eu/one-ticket-or-more-than-one-ticket-for-my-international-train-trip-more-than-one-with-passenger-rights-is-the-simpler-solution/

"Passegers want one ticket!"

Sure it'd be nicer.

But if the European Commission wants to try to legislate to get hundreds of rail firms to collaborate to get to one ticket, THEY WILL FAIL, because RAIL FIRMS are the strongest lobbyists, and they sure as hell don't want it. We passengers are nowhere.

One ticket, or more than one ticket, for my international train trip? More than one, with passenger rights, is the simpler solution

"Cross-border train travel is still too difficult for many citizens" were the words in Ursula von der Leyen's political guidelines for the 2024-2029 European Commission (PDF here). The document continues, bold is my emphasis: "People should be able to use open booking systems to purchase trans-European journeys with several providers,

@jon I'm not even sure it would be nicer to have one ticket. Quite often, split tickets are cheaper than a single one. Considering the many different ticket options, I can't imagine a single platform that would cover them all. And making passenger rights depend on the platform through which I purchased the tickets doesn't sound right anyways. Universal passenger rights for split tickets (with clear rules on when they apply and when not) would be much stronger from the passenger's perspective.
@jsimon @jon There should at least be the option. Czechia shows how it’s done: https://oneticket.cz/

@leckse @jsimon Perhaps. Czechia's system strikes me as a neat idea, but needlessly complicated.
@jon @leckse What about Switzerland? Still, today we often have the opposite: Platforms which plan trips and then sell you multiple tickets stating they constitute "individual travel contracts"

@jsimon @leckse here’s how to solve the multi contracts issue https://jonworth.eu/how-to-fix-railway-ticketing-in-the-eu/

Switzerland: it’d apply to any train going to the EU

How to fix railway ticketing in the EU

We know there is a problem with rail ticketing in the EU - anyone who has ever tried to book trains cross-border has encountered the issues. If you can find the trains you want, you often cannot get prices for the tickets. And even if you can get prices, you
