As of today trans women have been banned from playing women's rugby in any USA Rugby sanctioned matches. I only found this sport because I transitioned, and I fell deeply in love. I found friends, and a support network who wanted me to play with them. I was able to express my gender and find myself on the pitch, in ways I thought were closed off to me after I transitioned. I think this is a cowardly move, and an embarrassment to the sport of rugby. #Rugby #WomensSports #RugbyForAll #Trans #TransRights

@itzyg this is bullshit. Fuck this administration’s executive orders. Fuck the USOPC for accepting and legitimizing them. And fuck USA Rugby for going along with it. If I have to choose between loving and supporting rugby and loving and supporting trans people, rugby loses.

@josh0 Add World Rugby to the list too. Apparently USA Rugby was threated with losing the World Cup in addition to an Olympics bid. This is just a huge shit show

@itzyg well damn. I feel *slightly* better that USA Rugby were threatened into it, but only very slightly.

Now if only Old Glory DC would come out against this, so I don’t have to regret spending money on season tickets. I won’t hold my breath…

@josh0 I don't really keep up with the local men's clubs, but the Furies and the Flamingos have both posted against it. The Flamingos had a whole statement ready, but they apparently have known this was coming. We (the Furies) just found out this morning. I know some of the Old Glory players, and they seemed nice enough (Bret their prop came and guest coached for us once), but nice doesn't always mean ready to do the right thing.

@itzyg I could see this happening on the team level, and it would make me incredibly happy for OGDC to lead the way (Though, realistically, probably any of the other teams besides magbe Anthem are more likely.)

Hopefully the teams, if not the league, see that this is an opportunity to grow the fan base, and maybe pull some eyes away from the NFL. Rugby has always seemed like a bit of a refuge from the toxicity of other sports in the US, it would be incredibly disappointing if that ends here.
