The cloud chamber is assembled with a proper display installed. Now testing how cold we can get the temperature plate. Nat and I will be showing this project at the #RaspberryPi Birthday this coming Saturday at #Makespace in Cambridge.
#CloudChamber
Lowest temperature achieved tonight.
I couldn’t resist tweaking things a little longer and broke the -16 degrees C floor. We need to reach -23 C as I understand it for radiation detection to be possible so still some work to do on the design, but this has been fun to play with.
In tonight’s experiment we have added an additional water block into the cooling circuit and stuck it in a jug of ice and water. #CloudChamber
Sadly all we learned is that it melts the ice fast and doesn’t gain us lower temperatures.
@drfootleg Sounds like you need more thermal mass, or an other peltier :)
@Extelec Another Peltier is exactly what I have planned. I just thought a quick test immersing this secondary water block in ice water would gain us something. But it could not remove heat fast enough to show any benefit.
