There Are No Accidents in Writing, Only Happy(ish) Mistakes - Lemmy.World

I spent about three months working on what should have been a simple short story, but turned into a bad novella. The problem? I didn’t write an outline. That’s the thing about writing: what works for one person won’t necessarily work for everyone.

For me, an outline is a “best laid plan.” I’ve given up trying to use them. Half-way through, every time, my characters show me that my plan was foolish, and there’s a better way.
