I'm glad we're looking at ethical alternatives to imperialist tech generally but my position remains that the ethical alternative to large-language-model SAAS is "don't."

"But people want this" - Just one hundred accounts are responsible for the great majority of the conspiracy theories being peddled in Canadian social media. Do "people really want this", or do a handful of really loud assholes with a handful of system-privileged amplifiers want everyone to want this?

One hundred accounts are behind the majority of conspiracy theory content in Canada

Researchers analyzed more than 14 million social media posts from accounts in Canada and found that 87 per cent of conspiratorial claims come from influencers, with just 100 users responsible for nearly 70 per cent of online conspiracy claims. Users on Elon Musk’s X were the biggest culprits.

An externality is just a subsidy that's been extracted from people who weren't given a choice in the matter.
@mhoye I like this. Putting it right next to "Profits are just unpaid wages."
@mhoye and how many people actually control those accounts? I'd bet it's less than 100.
@mhoye I think "system-privileged amplifiers" is an overestimation. After eliminating those who are sock puppets for foreign interests, I'd wager a good number of the rest have bought into Objectivism and Libertarianism and don't realize that the deck is fully stacked against them just as much as it is anyone else who isn't backed by preexisting wealth. The ones with system privileges just sit back and laugh at the lot of us.
@mhoye In my view, many of these campaigns bear all the signs of Russian GRU Active Measures. It's been their main foreign policy tool since the 40's.
