As Kansas no-notice, no-grace-period revokes trans peoples' IDs and birth certificates, many people are looking to relocate to other states. But how long until everywhere in the US is Kansas?

But then again, how long until everywhere in the world is Kansas?

It's hard to know, impossible really, but the US sure seems heading there on a fast path.

I know a lot of people are counting on the midterms to turn things around. But there's near zero chance the losing side is going to believe the outcome of the election.

Jan 6th under Trump 1 was a hell of a thing. What about under Trump 2? Hard to imagine an outcome that doesn't escalate from cold to hot civil war, but maybe I'm just jaded or not very imaginative.

Shit times. Wish I had better answers.

Well, I didn't leave a lot of hope in that post. Sorry. Wish I could.

But if you are looking to get out of the US, or plan an exit route, I recommend looking at Trans World Express https://transworldexpress.org/wiki/Main_Page

Here's what I think you CAN expect: exactly the same pattern we've seen for the same year:

- A bit of quiet
- "Is everything ok now? Can we stick our heads out again?"
- BAM, the worst shit imaginable all in quick succession, it feels unbearable
- They mess up or lose steam. It starts to cool off. Nothing gets better, but very few *new* bad things are happening, and so...
- Repeat the cycle again.

That's been *consistently* the pattern for the next year. As you make plans, expect this pattern to continue.

@cwebber yep, this. Remember everyone, it's a ratchet. The worst shit imaginable isn't rolling back in the quiet times. The quiet times aren't an indicator that things aren't so bad, that's just the time when we all get used to the horrible new normal.

@cwebber

What happened here was unbelievable! Musk hates his own transgender daughter. Trump is just as much of a transgender hater. I used to think that the US was a free country. Yes, all this hatred is spreading worldwide right now, here in Europe too. Times are very bad for us. They want to exterminate us and rob us of our existence. What's so bad about that? The world is colorful. I don't want to live in a black-and-white world!

@cwebber Under Trump 2 people know that they will be pardoned for a 2nd Jan 6th.

On the other hand, Trump is losing his base *fast*. It may come down to most of US vs. ICE thugs.

@ArneBab Yeah, I think that's true, that the American people are having less patience for Trump.

I don't think the administration will give up power willingly.

We really need people who *aren't* in the minority, targeted groups to be leading the charge against this administration. Things are unbelievably dangerous right now.

@cwebber Honestly, it’s not just the US. Friends tell me the UK has almost become uninhabitable, and Australia and Italy are on their way. There is a global fascist movement, and we are one of their stepping stones to ascension. I don’t have good answers either, but sooner or later we’re going to need to come together for support and make a stand.

@cwebber At this point my worst fear is not civil war, though perhaps it should be, but passive acceptance of a rigged outcome.

I can't imagine that a fair election would allow the GOP to retain majorities in either the House or Senate.

Even one with the GOP's thumb slightly on the scale will probably not be enough this time to help them retain majorities -- but I think they're going to pull out all the stops to suppress the vote and quite possibly tamper with results or ignore them, too.

They are doing everything they can to make peaceful change impossible. My fear is that if they are successful in that, people will grumble but largely go along with it, and then it's game really over.

Sigh. Is it too early to start drinking?

@cwebber all I know is that people take notes and that I won't stop fighting, because the only difference is the order at which they'd come after me.

  • On one had I wish for the affected people to not be in the situation, or at the very least have a chance to escape.
  • On the other hand, I acknowledge that #WhatWeAllowIsWhatWillContinue and that the #LackOfAccountability & #LackOfConsequences got this shit, and on one hand I admire the restraint and on the other just shake my head amidst the cowardice of people not telling christofascists to "Say Hello to their Little Friend" and castle them…
    • Cuz unlike most places in the world, people in the US at least have legal access to means of self defense.
    • If this is not what the #2A was made for, then what else would it be for?

It's really sickening how this shite is allowed to happen and how the vast majority don't even try the absolute minimum of solidarity & protests.

  • I wish I could help more fols, but I already got my hands full.
