Česko je černým pasažérem EU (obrázek) i NATO (odkaz).
A kvůli podnikání několika oligarchů se zase několik let můžeme stydět, odkud to jsme. Co s tím uděláme?

@[email protected] why is greece EL :')
@pmjv @tomulinek @gettie because of how they call themselves; "Ellene" or something (prob misspelled it)
@reiddragon something like that. sometimes i don't quite get country codes
@pmjv @tomulinek
@gettie @pmjv @tomulinek I'm pretty sure they're based on the country's local name for themselves for the most part
this isn't always true, at least for the czech republic, which is CZ, but there's no Z in the local name

(same for HUngary)

It's actually almost never true. Usually it's just a random pair of letters. For example, Japans' code is "JP", but there's neither a J nor a P in 日本. It's just which ever two letters the guy at google picked that day in 1998.

never heard that, thanks!

While the world knows the country as Greece (from Latin Graecia), Greeks call their land Elláda (Ελλάδα) or Hellas.

GR = The International Standard (ISO 3166). Used for car plates, ISO codes, and the .gr domain.

EL = Based on the Greek name for the language/nation (Ellínika / Elláda).

I think the domain should be .hell

so you can have subsidiaries of multinationals such as

google.hell
bankofamerica.hell
tesla.hell
ebay.hell
amazon.hell
monsanto.hell bayer.hell basf.hell adm.hell
bp.hell

best of all

go2.hell

@iriyan @tomulinek @pmjv @gettie I think a certain town in Michigan would have priority for that name, though
