James Talarico beating Jasmine Crockett in Texas Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, poll shows
I read about it here.
But, after reading it again, it does say this poll was taken just before Talarico’s interview with Stephen Colbert aired. I guess not many people knew about him before that. That’s quite a boost.
There aren’t a lot of polls for this race, but there was a recent one that had Talarico at +12. Here’s a polling average from fiftyplusone.news/polls/senate/…/texas
Kamala Harris also just endorsed Jasmine Crockett yesterday.
So, uh… take that as you will.
I’m split evenly on them. Republicans want Crockett because she’s a woman and black and they think that’ll make it easy or something. I think she’s a more dominant opponent to the Republican party in sheer strength. Her rhetoric hits like a sack of nickels.
Talarico on the other hand is a bigger threat to Christian nationalism. That what I think they fear in him. He is a very mild mannered, straight white Christian man. He knows the Bible and he is politely reminding Christians that the Jesus in the Bible would have never worn a maga hat, and would have opposed those that do.
So I see why Republicans prefer Crocket, but I think it’s bad news for them either way.
I do, or did too. But I frankly like how Talarico packages his points much better.
I also saw Crockett took a $25k trip paid for by AIPAC and that’s a deal-breaker alone for me. Though Talarico took took money from Adelson’s pac before he went viral, it seems that was related to casinos. Both imperfect, I guess.
Watch some of his recent speeches, or the videos that made him viral this past year. He has fully embraced the Fight Oligarchy strategy of AOC and Sanders.
I have an instinctual dislike for any candidate that is an enthusiastic religion freak. I also like Crockett a lot. So it seems like my choice would be easy, but it isn’t.
Democrats have been getting closer and closer to winning with every Senate election. Republicans used to win by double digits, now they are barely winning by very small margins. Beto O’Rourke probably could have won, if he hadn’t stupidly gone on the radio, and arrogantly declared that he would take their guns. In Texas. He might as well have taken one of those guns and shot himself. I wasn’t shocked he lost after that, I expected a blow out loss, but I didn’t expect how close he would still come.
If Beto could get that close after announcing his gun confiscation dreams, then a proper candidate could probably win it. So in TEXAS, which candidate can realistically flip that seat, the white preacher, or the loud black lady?
Viewed through the lens of the average Texas voter, the choice seems obvious.
You need someone who can cut across that.
That’s not him though. He could be the most pure, righteous, moral person on the planet but if there’s a D next to his name the crazies aren’t going to even consider voting for him.
Long as they help promote each other after this election, it is good for them to compete. IMO, a good election is like a good game show: it gathers people together, and makes them feel excited about the possibilities. We need that energy from our good politicians, it makes people say “these folks can do stuff!”
Whoever wins this election, should help their opposite number get into a high office. Simple as that.
Anyone claiming Talarico is a centrist is intentionally smearing him or unaware of his performance in Texas and his platform for his Senate run.

He’s not a Democratic Socialist, but he is the closest thing to it that could come out of Texas. Jasmine Crockett is arguably farther right than he is. More importantly, most polling predicts that Talarico has the better chance against Cornyn (incumbent). However, odds are nearly the same for both candidates against Paxton.
That said, the most interesting part of this whole thing is that Republicans are boosting Crockett. She’s they’re pick to run against Cornyn. Do they think she can win but would be easier to control than Talarico? Do they think it’s a guarantee for Cornyn? Whatever the case, Trump thinks he’s nomination is a gift to the GOP.
His website says nothing about dismantling the nuclear arsenal, which is the greatest threat to all life on earth.
His website says nothing about establishing a carbon tax or banning the burning of fossil fuels, which is the second most threat to all life on earth. In fact, he says he wants to build more fossil fuel infrastructure!
His website doesn’t say anything about stopping the Israeli genocide. In fact, he legitimizes the Israeli terrorist State, and says he wants to disarm the Palestinian government while continuing to provide Iron Dome to the Israelis (note he doesn’t say give Iron Dome to the Palestines, who are the victims of genocide from their neighbors).
He also seems to be pretty hostile to undocumented immigrants. And he seems to oppose abolition (he actually says we should give more money ["resources "] to police!
Thanks, I was wrong. He seems to be right of center.

Don’t let the fascists drag you to the right.
Electing someone right of center is not acceptable.
Have heard Talarico speak twice now. Both times he had practically the same story, with practically the same intonation on words. Sounded very rehearsed, inauthentic to be honest.
I’m not an American, nor obviously am I from Texas, but I’ve heard of Crockett, and she’s had some decent exchanges in the house in the past from what I recall. I imagine, between the two, I’d have more confidence that she’d be a more vocal/active/progressive democrat – whereas Talarico almost feels like a Republican in Democrat clothing.
: In the primary campaign your opposition is Jack Hopeful, a member of your own party. Never forget that you will need the support of all your party after the primary and never let your supporters forget it!
This is a very touchy, difficult matter, particularly in a volunteer organization. You are certain to have loyal supporters who are simple souls, unable to think in terms other than black and white. To them Jack Hopeful is the ENEMY - they will commit excesses through misguided zeal. So also will some of Mr. Hopeful’s supporters. Bad blood breeds more bad blood; in short order you can have a situation which is completely out of hand, which splits the party wide open, and which will render it impossible for your man to win in the finals.
Since the nomination is valueless in itself, being merely a necessary means to an end, you must prevent this at all costs.
