I'm not browbeating anyone for using Bluesky.

I'm not harshing anyone's mellow or condemning them for liking one thing or another.

I am however going to indulge in a moment of sincere disappointment over the fact that so many people who generally espouse the idea that open software, standards and communities are important find this place exhausting and choose to place their faith in yet another corporate venture that may well turn bug ugly when the money runs dry.

Have we learned nothing from Twiter, Facebook, Instagram and all the rest?

I keep telling myself I've gotta stop talking about this, but I can't. People talked for YEARS about how great it would be to havea totally free open source alternative social network.

Well, now we have one, and a staggering number of people find it... Exhausting and run right back to Big Capital.

sigh

I'm done whining for the moment.

@feoh it's interesting, I frequently post in both places (doing it manually) and I get much more engagement on #bluesky than #mastodon -except- when it's something local, and then it's flipped
@feoh oh and *wave* hope you had fun at #boskone saw you at one point but you were in conversation with someone and I didn't want to interrupt

@drawnonglass Hi! Sorry to hear we missed each other!

I had a blast. Really great weekend overall. Very much enjoyed all the panels and author readings, and got to meet @knizer briefly and spend some time with @nosrednayduj which was lovely as always.

I actually just joined NESFA as well. They run a bunch of events out of their club house in Magoun and I REALLY need to get out of the house more! :)
