l’m not sure this is very well known fact but early Playstation 1 console models had more issues with color banding that later ones, they HW patched in the later PS1 revisions so some games would look different depending on where you played it.

@brhfl @djlink I totally get you. Games age better when they forego realism in favour of a distinct art style, and the colour banding accidentally adds a more bold and abstract use of light and colour.

But then, maybe it's just that a whole bunch of indie devs have spent the last decade trying to copy that look that it lines up more with modern expectations of what looks good in low poly?
