A wee art Shop Lynxhead up the road in #Dunbar has started stocking some hobby stuff, and I decided to take the monkey in to get some paints of her own - honestly she’s painting daft, loves the paint pots themselves, and the picking her next colours. Reckoned - she’d really like having a set of her own. Mind, she’s not there yet and this is very much a Hobby parent indulging themselves and their Daughters notions.

Well, if I didn’t just have the absolute best of experiences.

I let herself pick her own colours from the rack and look around, and chat to me about what she was doing.

The shop owner is a dote - engaged in chat with Monkey, and when she realised these were *actually* paints for the small person, she went got her one of the free Miniatures so she’d have something to paint.

Wish I could bottle the happy contented walk to the car, holding her bag with a few paints and sprue, and the drive home - telling me what colours she had, telling me what parts their were on the sprue “trousers, arm, cheese*”, and that she was going to “build it”. Got home and burst into the house to tell her Ma, proceeded to spend the evening building and painting happily.

*cheese is the inferno flamer a space marine his carrying.

If you’re this side of #Scotland with Hobby-smackaroonies to spend do pop in, it’s a really lovely local business.

@RollleafD that’s just gorgeous! My youngest is just getting into 40K too and it’s reinvigorating my own enthusiasm seeing her so excited.

@evilkipper it’s really just had me really happy and thinking - what a great face for the hobby that wee art shop is. Happy wean, and really happy parent. It really does get you back at it, doesn’t it? The joy is infectious. It’s the antithesis of some online chat about hobbying - just carefree joy.

How’s the journey into 40k going for your wean? Immersed in anything particular? Ive such strong memories of reading WD and Rulebook lore sections when I was young - lost in daydreams for hours.

@RollleafD I missed this at the time! Yes, hobbying with the pickle is just brilliant carefree fun.

They are loving it - we sort of got into it through a few routes, like generally painting stuff, her seeing me do my minis and go off for game nights, playing a bit of HeroQuest, but also a bit through the support route in store and seeing sisters of battle on the metaquest!

@RollleafD weirdly it’s much more painting and game based than the lore enthusiasm I had as a nipper. White dwarf was such a big thing for me but it’s not as engaging now.
@RollleafD My humble petition is for us to collectively honour her by agreeing to always refer to marine weapons as arm cheese.
@dmcgk we’re I a Xenos Scum™️ I would voluntarily and quickly be ushered to my death by a cheese fondant gun. No way I’d have the self control to avoid bursting shortly after encountering it.
@RollleafD “Look at the arm cheese on that one”
