tl;dr: If you wanna be on the safe side, go with KeePass+Synchting. Storing credentials anywhere but on personally owned metal is a big no-no in my world.

Agreed, but I have shared passwords with family members…family members who aren’t tech savvy and aren’t necessarily in my immediate vicinity that I can offer tech support to in a timely manner.

I’ve found Bitwarden to be a workable stop gap while I work in a self hosted Vaultwarden instance (taking a lot longer to spin up with recent career moves - been in the works for almost a year now).

That said, how “high maintenance” do you think it would be to set up a keepass ish setup like you suggest?

Its pretty easy to set up, though I’ve been using a self hosted btsync for years now instead of syncthing: set up your folder, share with server, and wipe your hands :)

That said, I also have family on mine and have a 1pass family sub, which was the only way I could get people to use non standard passwords

It’s like herding cats sometimes.

I’ve been using KeepassXC + syncthing for years, served me well.
