In Northern Ireland, we know what it costs when labels replace humanity. We’ve lived it.

When politicians call people “illegal migrants”, they’re not being neutral, they’re using language that human rights bodies have condemned as inaccurate and dehumanising.

There are around 2,600 people currently accessing asylum support in NI out of a population of 1.9 million. That’s just 0.14%. When politicians blame them for society’s problems, it’s deliberate scapegoating of vulnerable people so you don’t challenge them.

The accurate terms are simple: asylum seekers, refugees, people seeking protection. Words that reflect reality rather than manufacture fear.

No human being is illegal. People seeking safety deserve dignity and due process - whatever their paperwork says.

We will always stand for human dignity over fear-mongering. ✊
