Server being blasted by programming.dev? - Lemmy.World

Hello! I’m working on my home server trying to get some networking problems solved, and out of nowhere my nginx is suddenly being hit from this instance tens of times per second. I’m at several thousand lines in just 10 minutes. I’m still new to networking stuff, trying to learn what I can. Is this normal?[https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a21737d3-dbce-413c-9395-068a12a1a4cb.png]

It’s posting to your inbox. Were you able to have a look at your database? My bet is that you’re getting synced with the network I.e posts and comments.
Well, it was trying to post to the inbox, which hasn’t existed for a year and a half now.
Wait… Really? I thought that was the basis of acrivitypub. Is there a new spec?
They shut down their personal instance, so the specific inbox it is trying to reach hasn’t existed for a year and a half.
Thanks for the clarification!
That is probably part of the problem. My guess is that for some reason programming.dev is trying to send a backlog of events since the time your instance was shut down. This doesn’t seem like something that should happen though, as I’d expect Lemmy to mark an instance as Gone and stop trying to send events after a while.
