We went to a nearby Tora Matsuri! Chōgosonshi-ji on Mt. Shigi, on the border of Ōsaka and Nara Prefectures, has a long association with tigers, and every February they have a tiger festival. The temple's main secular tourist draw is a massive hariko (papier-mâché) bobblehead tiger. It's goofy as hell and really endearing. 😆🐯

Here's a video of the giant tiger. From what we could tell, it's not powered in anyway, just precisely weighted like the traditional small figures are.

More tigers! This place takes its theme seriously. Even outside of the festival decorations, there's plenty of tiger stuff there year-round.

There's other non-tiger stuff to see too, of course, including some incredible views of the Nara basin, and (supposedly) Japan's largest Jizō statue.

Most people get there by bus from Nara Prefecture, but since we live closer to Ōsaka we got to take the Kintetsu funicular cable car up most of the way, which was very fun. 😁
