increasingly convinced that the central culprit in the "every UI now has gigantic margins of blank space around everything" phenomenon of the past ~decade is the sideways capsule shape. if you insist that all your buttons and fields are that shape and you're optimizing for "nothing is ever too close together", you are going to have some really big ass margins and tons of blank space around almost everything. IMO boxes and rounded rectangles lead to a wholly different cognitive-aesthetic calculus

you are *eventually* (as screen sizes increase and UIs fill with features) going to wind up there; obviously it took a good few years after that shape was introduced for the enswellening to really set in.

@jplebreton hah I've never actually used a GB camera but it's one of those products where the devs were left unsupervised and put out something truly gloriously weird. Definitely worth reading up on
