"this concept is described in the intel SDM chapter blah heading blah, and the AMD APM chapter blah heading blah", like the AMD instruction reference is (mostly) volume 3 section 3 "General-Purpose Instruction Reference" and section 4 "System Instruction Reference" with simd described in volume 4. where's the 512-bit media instruction reference? i don't know!
