I’ve decided to use an AI-generated image for my blog profile picture and banner instead of commissioning artwork from a human artist.

At first, I assumed that using existing artwork for a profile picture or banner might be an exception to “no re-upload” rules, especially since this practice is common on platforms like Twitter and Reddit. However, after a reminder from a friend and further clarification from GPT, I confirmed that this assumption isn’t legally or ethically sound. (cont.)

I genuinely respect and appreciate the creativity, skill, and effort that human artists put into their work. Their unique perspectives bring depth and meaning that can’t be easily replicated. Unfortunately, commissioning artwork isn’t something I can afford at the moment. When I was in Singapore, commission prices typically ranged from 200 to 250 SGD per piece, and commissioning cover art for every article I write would quickly become financially unmanageable. My blog currently generates no income, and I already cover ongoing costs such as cloud services and hosting. Given that most artworks are clearly marked “no re-upload,” it has been difficult to find suitable images for my blog’s profile picture or banners without risking copyright violations.

Because of these constraints, I’ve chosen to use AI-generated images created through text-based prompts. This allows me to have original visuals without infringing on anyone’s work or rights. (cont.)
