At Vivaldi, we believe you should be free to install the software you want on a device you own. This is as important for Android as it is for iOS, so we'e signed this letter to Google, along with friends.

@brucelawson let's all install Lineage OS and move on. Lineage or systems forked from Lineage
@brucelawson why is Vivaldi not fully open source?
Why isn’t Vivaldi browser open-source? | Vivaldi Browser

People involved in the open-source community often ask us why Vivaldi browser isn’t fully open-source. In this post, we’ll explore and explain our position.

Vivaldi Browser
@S_Paternotte @brucelawson impress how badly argued these takes are. All those things could be said about Chrome, and then you wouldn't have a Browser to release in the first place.
@liaizon Except Chrome isn't open source. @S_Paternotte
@brucelawson @S_Paternotte I was using Chrome as shorthand but yes I should have said Chromium. but they are very close but I think you probably get the point regardless
@brucelawson seeing you are cofounder of OWA feel free to disregard my lowly opinion. OWA is doing amazing work and very happy it exists so thank you for that. I really like Vivaldi and only ranting about the floss issue here cause it feels like a regression if I were to switch back to it for the sole issue of its weird stance on floss
@liaizon You've every right to your opinion! But the difference between Chrome and Chromium matters; I suspect the latter is open-source because it forked webkit, which in turn was derived from KHTML. And, like Google, we (and many others) build proprietary stuff on top of it.
@liaizon You asked a question. I supplied you a with a link to the answer from the company. This is what it is and this is what we have to do with. If you don't like it, then choose a different favourite webbrowser. No need to stir things up.
@S_Paternotte I dont think my opinion that Vivaldi should be open source and the fact that it isn't is a shame is stirring things up. I *am* using a different browser, I am using @zenbrowser which is an actively maintained floss fork of Firefox. I am friends with many people who use Vivaldi and I have used it for my daily driver for about a year a number of years ago.
@S_Paternotte just because you supplied me with an answer to the company doesn't mean that "the job is done" and there is no more to it. If all the browsers used the arguments in that blogpost we would not have the web we do today.
