Renewing my UK passport. Nervous because this requires sending both my UK and US passports away and I don't *like* that. Also, my old passport said European Union on it so the new one will be an unwelcome reminder.
@torgo yeah, I recently did this and am regretting it a bit because I have gotten into a bind with the identity verification step. I've had two people try, that I thought met the requirements and they were reviewed and rejected. 🤞 third time's a charm?
@torgo update: third time did seem to be the charm!
@torgo but you can have it blue 😅 🫣
@torgo yeah i find this stressful too
@torgo I very much feel your pain, Dan. Heck, I even blogged about it https://philarcher.org/diary/2025/passport/
Blue passport

I can't put it off any longer. I'm going to have to get a blue passport

@torgo Apart from the Brexit idiocy... how come you have to send in your US passport as well? I have been a dual citizen all my life, but the administrations of the two passports were always done independently of one another...
@ivan_herman it's a UK thing. They want you to send any additional passports you hold in as well when you renew your UK one. You always get them back (or at least I always have in the past.) 🤷

@torgo I actually wonder whether that is fully legal. I believe that, formally, your US passport is owned by the US state, and the UK authorities have no right to hold it in their possession for several days (maybe unless you commit some crime). I remember from my childhood incidents when this came up...

But, of course ianal 🙂

@torgo On the bright side it looks more black than blue and is printed in France I think? 🤣
