give me your suggestions for a security camera system that's easy to operate for someone with zero computer skills, is secure, and allows for remote access (yes, yes I know).

@Kels_316 I’d like my unicorn to be fluro orange thanks.

Seriously though, the UniFi camera stuff looks pretty nice?

@jpm MIL needs something, they've had some attempted break ins recently. Only reason for remote is so we could get in and help sort out any dramas without being on-site.
@Kels_316 @jpm Unifi, but you're in their ecosystem, or something that supports Apple Homekit but you'll be paying Apple.
@voltagex @Kels_316 yeah and I’m not sure if I’d recommend anyone buying into UniFi now, given *waves arms at embargo-breaking in Russia*
@jpm @voltagex @Kels_316 russian embargo what now???

HUNTERBROOK

@root @decryption @jpm @voltagex @Kels_316 Saw that article a few weeks back; and came out barely a month after I bit the bullet and finally replaced my 8yr Synology router and mesh setup with Unifi gear.

Not. Happy. Jan. 😑

@twcau @root @jpm @voltagex @Kels_316 it's pretty rough how blind of an eye ubiquiti is turning to their gear in russia - not just from a legal trade sanction point of view, but like, an ethical and humanitarian one :(
@decryption @twcau @root @voltagex @Kels_316 yep that’s the biggest issue with the “but it’s the distributors!” excuse they’re using.

@jpm @decryption @root @voltagex @Kels_316 The section in the article about UI’s capability to identify and kill their devices in the field if they identify them in RU blows it it out the water.

Not withstanding it’s easy for them to trace these items back through their distribution chain, and cut those distributors off.

Almost as bad as the excuses Cloudflare use for allowing genuinely awful groups their safe harbour/services.

@twcau @jpm @root @voltagex @Kels_316 whenever i see this sort of behaviour at a large company i genuinely wonder how the CEO sleeps at night knowing they're enabling the literal death of innocent people - it feels like such a nobrainer to at least do what I can to prevent my company's gear ending up in the hands of evil people, I don't even know what the "pro" argument for it is here as there's a very easy cop out if your board or investors tell you to turn a blind eye - the fucken law
@decryption @root @jpm @voltagex @Kels_316 Agree entirely, really rubbed me up the wrong way just how little a crap they give.
