Been playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online (Switch emulator on PC), and this has been happening a lot.

In a way it’s my fault for selecting frantic items, though it does make the races more chaotically fun.

IMO coins are a punishment for being first, the lightning bolt penalizes everyone and takes you out of your race groove, the blue turtle shell I can take or leave.
